Our mission is simple: to spread Canvas Joy — one brushstroke, one smile, and one happy accident at a time. Led by our passionate instructor Mike, who not only enjoys creating art but also shares his talent through teaching, we invite you to explore your creative side.
Mike draws inspiration from the beloved Bob Ross, guiding students in a fun and relaxed environment. He also offers commissions and sells his original works, adding a personal touch to every piece.
Join us in the classroom, where you might even find Mike’s daughter, Courtney, sharing her artistic flair. Together, they embody the heart of Canvas Joy, where every brushstroke brings a little more joy to the world!
Our Story
Mike and Courtney have always had a creative spark, growing up in a family rich in artistic talent and craft, art has always been in their blood. They’ve explored a myriad of artistic avenues over the years, but it wasn’t until Mike’s retirement that his passion for painting truly flourished and he truly leaned into doing what he loves.
After taking their first Bob Ross paint class at Minnetrista in Muncie, Indiana, they were instantly captivated. Inspired by the joy of painting, Mike pursued certification as an instructor, eager to share his love for the craft with others. Now, Courtney is excited to follow in his footsteps, continuing the family tradition of creativity.
Together, they are on a journey to inspire others to discover the joy of oil painting, one brushstroke at a time. Let’s paint something beautiful together.

Michael Wilson
Founder
A Certified Ross Instructor, lifelong creative, and proud believer that there are no mistakes, only happy accidents. Creativity has been a constant companion throughout my life—and turns out, retirement is the perfect time to chase joy, get a little messy, and paint some happy little worlds. I live in NW Indiana with my beautiful wife, Cheryl, and our sassy little dog, Beckett. When I’m not painting, I’m working in the yard, traveling the world with my best friend, or visiting the family!

Courtney Gonzales
The Daughter
Following in her father Mike’s artistic footsteps, Courtney is on an exciting journey to become a certified painting instructor one day. Balancing work and family life, she cherishes every moment spent painting alongside her dad. Inspired by their shared passion for art, Courtney loves exploring new techniques and creating beautiful memories on canvas. With a heart full of joy and creativity, she’s eager to inspire others to pick up a brush and discover the magic of painting. She lives in the Indianapolis area, with her husband Danny, and their two children. They have a rambunctious dog, Archie, and two cuddly kitties, Oakland and Paw.
